Canterbury has today announced that Ireland Rugby Centre, Robbie Henshaw, has become its latest ambassador.

As part of the agreement, Henshaw will endorse the brand’s comprehensive range of training wear and rugby lifestyle clothing.

With a total of 16 Ireland caps since making his full debut in 2013, and an impressive 65 caps for Connacht since 2012, Henshaw has already established himself as a key player within both teams and is set for a promising RBS 6 Nations.

The new deal reinforces Canterbury’s commitment to the game and sees the brand expanding further into the Irish market, complementing their already impressive global representation in rugby.

Robbie Henshaw, Ireland Rugby Centre, said; “I’m delighted to be an ambassador for such a renowned rugby brand as Canterbury and really look forward to working with them.”

Canterbury’s CEO, Chris Stephenson, said; “We are proud to announce that Robbie Henshaw has joined the Canterbury brand ambassador fold. We look forward to working with Robbie, who has an impressive career to date and we wish his every success in the current RBS 6 Nations.”

The deal sees Robbie Henshaw join Kevin Sinfield, Geoff Parling, Dylan Hartley, Sam Burgess and former England star, Will Greenwood as Canterbury ambassadors.

R.I.P Jonah Lomu

The world of sport woke up this morning to the shocking news that Rugby’s first “SUPERSTAR”, Jonah Lomu has sadly passed away.

RIP_JL

Jonah Lomu

Lomu had suffered from kidney disease for two decades and had a transplant in 2004 but former All Blacks doctor John Mayhew said his death was a complete shock.

Zinzan Brooke has paid tribute to “great friend” and former New Zealand team-mate Jonah Lomu, who has died at the age of 40.

“He could have played in any position he wanted to on the field,” Brooke told BBC Radio 5 live. “It was Laurie Mains who decided to play him on the wing. It’s amazing what he did in that ’95 World Cup. He launched himself on the international scene and changed the way the game was played in an instant. He was very calm but you knew you had a force within the team. He was phenomenal. When you think of the World Cup you will always go back to Jonah running round or over opponents. You’ll always remember the superstar that was Jonah Lomu.

I’m still in shock now realising a great friend has gone.” – Zinzan Brooke

The warrior of a winger, who scored 37 tries in 63 Test matches for the All Blacks, had suffered from health problems since his retirement from the game in 2002 due to a rare kidney disease – but the news came as a shock.

R.I.P Jonah Lomu, you will be sadly missed.

adidas Rugby announce Electric Boot Range

History inspires innovation: ADIDAS Electric Boot Range

DSC_4993

adidas has today announced the Electric Boot Range – in four different models, each specifically designed for optimum performance for all positions on the rugby field.

Following more than 40 years of innovation, the range unveiled today continues to deliver the best in modern technology and rugby footwear. Inspired by adidas’ first rugby boot colourway, each boot is engineered with individual position movements and game requirements front of mind, catering to every facet of play.

The Electric Boot Range, available from July 1, is made up of the CrazyQuick Malice, Predator Incurza, FF80 Pro and the adipower Kakari.

B23028_1Replacing the adizero RS7, all new CrazyQuick Malice is made for the mavericks of the team. With lightweight construction and textured upper, the boot is designed to optimise agility and speed. The unique stud configuration also provides ultimate traction while supporting lateral movements, ideal for an elusive running game.

B23069_1For the kicking back, the Predator Incurza is the range’s most accurate boot. The soft hybrid upper will keep the foot dry and kicks true in all conditions. The reengineered TRAXION stud configuration offers the player maximum grip and acceleration.

B23035_1With a unique 5×2 stud configuration and updated forefoot design, the FF80 Pro is specifically engineered for the loose forwards, providing improved stability, comprehensive lateral support and ultimate traction in all areas of play.

B23016_1Arguably the hardest working boot in the range, the adipower Kakari is designed specifically for the tight-five. The boot is lighter, tougher and stronger than its predecessor, with dual density outsole and RPU construction, providing any forward optimum support in key areas such as rucking, mauling and scrummaging.

Whether the focus is controlling kicks, exploding off the back off the scrum, stepping through the opposition’s backline, or clearing the ruck, the Electric Boot Range supports players’ dedicated needs of play.

The range, varying from £100-£165RRP, will be stocked at adidas stores and major sporting goods retailers, rugby retailers worldwide, as well as online at www.adidasrugby.com.

The All Blacks jersey for Rugby World Cup 2015

Heritage and strength as adidas unveils the All Blacks jersey for Rugby World Cup 2015

At BootAdvisor.ie we normally don’t do shirts… But this is different! And we love it!

All Blacks World Cup Jerseyadidas and New Zealand Rugby have today unveiled the All Blacks Rugby World Cup jersey, combining the latest in sporting apparel technology with a homage to the most iconic of All Blacks teams, The Originals.

”To wear a jersey with a design that represents the nation’s proud rugby heritage and reflects the team’s success since 1905 is hugely significant to us.” – Richie McCaw

The jersey, unveiled at a function in Auckland, New Zealand today, is the most technically advanced All Blacks jersey to date, but has undergone a subtle design change that pays respect to the legendary Originals team, which toured the United Kingdom, France and the USA in 1905-1906, losing just one match on their famous 35-match tour.

Simon Cartwright, Senior Director – adidas Rugby, says: “We wanted to pay respect in some small way to The Originals in the design of the new jersey and acknowledge the century-long success of the team, and we think we have done that with the subtle design around the chest.

As with previous Rugby World Cup jerseys, the RWC trophy is embossed on the right sleeve of the jersey acknowledging the All Blacks’ Rugby World Cup successes in 1987 and 2011.  haka Dedicated fans will no doubt also notice the movement of the logos, with the inclusion of the Rugby World Cup 2015 logo on the right, which sees the adidas badge move to the centre of the jersey. The All Blacks silver fern logo remains on the left hand side of the jersey.  The adidas and All Blacks logos, as well as the jersey numbers on the back, are a gun metal silver colour.

All Blacks Captain Richie McCaw, who was consulted over the design, says: “To wear a jersey with a design that represents the nation’s proud rugby heritage and reflects the team’s success since that iconic team of 1905-1906 is hugely significant to us. We’re ready to wear the Rugby World Cup jersey with pride.”

The ALL New Adidas 11Pro & Nitrocharge 1.0

Adidas has changed things up!

In particular the all new version of its 11Pro boot, which is set to offer the most comfortable and premium fit to date. The all-new design and colour blocking ensures that the 11Pro is the classiest boot on the football field and the “perfect suit” in terms of elegance and style.

The 11Pro has been re-engineered from heel to toe allowing for increased stability and protection. A new skeleton in the heel and forefoot allows for the perfect fit, as well as increased stability. The all new comfort outsole also features a comfort frame which distributes pressure across the shoe, while new smaller studs provide perfect ground penetration. The leather upper provides an ultra-comfortable fit as well as optimum control. The 11Pro boot shapes and moulds to your foot, minimising the gap between ball, boot and foot.

As well as providing unparalleled comfort and support, the boot comes with a new premium and modern look. The classic black and white design gives the boots a timeless appeal and puts them at the forefront of style in the beautiful game.

Adidas has also launched an updated Nitrocharge – the chosen boot for box to box soccer players, or the midfield general of the GAA world. With the latest version adding even more protection for the players at the heart of the action. A new energy-sling positioning has been used alongside an increased area of protection pads and protection mesh to provide unrivalled stability.

Of the two releases we’re particular excited about the new 11Pro and what’s on offer. The 11Pro could be a clever ploy by Adidas to challange Nike’s “nikeskin”… Time will tell with further releases.

Both boots are stamped with the UEFA Champions League logo inside, a mark that these boots are designed to deliver on the biggest of all stages.

The all-new adidas 11Pro & adidas Nitrocharge 1.0 is available to buy from Monday 1st December.

BodiBro High Performance Mid Sock

We recently got our hands on BodiBro’s NEW Hi Performance Mid Sports Sock!

Bodibro logo

Gone are the days of baggy loose socks falling down around your ankles! It was the number one problem for players across the country. Taping the long over sized socks to your legs just doesn’t cut it any more.

BenBrosnan Wexford’s Ben Brosnan company BodiBro have cleverly utilised the gap in the market for a unique mid range length sock!

BodiBro are not reinventing the wheel here, but simply changing how the wheel turns! The Hi Performance Sock offers a shorter sock that simply stays at mid calf level. Simple.

Field tests done and we were pleastently surprised how well they stayed up around the mid calf. The conditions were dry and after 45 minutes testing there was little or no change. So far so good!

We tested how well the elastic at the top band held out after extensive abuse, again all good.

So how do you get around wearing your team socks and BodiBro socks? Well, cut your team sock just above the ankle, wear your team sock as a leg sleeve so that it just overlaps the top of the BodiBro and then tape over the join between the BodiBro and your team sock. Done!

Overall the BodiBro Mid Sock is a great alternative to the full length sock. Comes highly recommended by all the guys here.

BodiBro High Performance Mid Sock Details:

•High Performance Mid Sock.

•Highly Flexible Band – Flexible elastic band at the top of sock to fit shape of leg/calf.

•Heel Cushioning – Cushions and minimises pressure points. Softer material.

•Flat Toe Seams – The seam is designed to help prevent irritation and blisters.

•Tight fitting sock. Extra tight at the top and ankle. Doesn’t slip down while running/kicking.

Made in 10 different colours. Check out BodiBro for full details.
