Game Review | EA Sports FIFA 17

Following the rise of 17-year-old wonderkid Alex Hunter, it takes you through the first year of a Premier League career, including weekly training and a full slate of fixtures, and is far more enjoyable than it has any right to be. Select Manchester United and you compete with Zlatan Ibrahimovic for a first-team spot! Good luck with that! West Ham’s Reece Oxford was involved as a consultant. It offers a real insight into the actual reality of a professional footballer. These details is exactly why so many people love EA Sports games!

EA has positioned The Journey as an experience never before offered in football games, and correctly so; it’s one that football fans both casual and committed should find satisfying and unexpectedly insightful.

If The Journey has been EA’s off-pitch focus, on the field of play it’s the Frostbite engine that the publisher has trumpeted loudest. Surprisingly, however, incorporating the tech which underpins Battlefield and Star Wars Battlefront only changes Fifa from a visual standpoint.

15 of the 20 Premier League bosses have been scanned and included here, the accurately modelled is scarily accurate!

For better or worse, there’s also been some tinkering under the hood. Passing feels quicker, although not necessarily sharper, and this year’s batch of digital maestros seem more prone to fumbling the ball under pressure.

It’s clear EA has gone the extra mile to immerse players in the world of football – the studio even gets real-world stars like Marco Reus and Harry Kane to voice their digital input – but in doing so they’ve ensured that The Journey is the start of something special. I can’t wait to see where it goes next year.

With some annoying flaws such as the new penalty kick issues, FIFA17 seems to have taken on a new journey and The Journey of Alex Hunter is exactly what new and old FIFA fans are looking for.

Excitment is already brewing as to what lies in store for the next gen. of the EA Sports FIFA football game!

Our Rating: 8/10 (A slightly new direction by EA, enhanced by The Journey storyline. Very solid game.)

“Bringing some of the best women’s players and teams in the world to our franchise is a massive event for EA SPORTS, and we are equally excited  about bringing millions of fans a new way to play,” said David Rutter, VP and GM, EA SPORTS FIFA.

What does it mean to you to be in FIFA 16?
It is such an honor for women’s players and our team to be included in FIFA 16. I always wondered what it would be like to see our team in the game and it is very cool to know that it is now a reality.

Did you play video games growing up? What was your favorite game?
We definitely played video games growing up and my favorite was definitely Mario Party.

Who is your biggest inspiration?
My family has been a consistent source of support and inspiration throughout my career. I also grew up being inspired by US Women’s National Team “greats” like Kristine Lilly, Mia Hamm and my current teammate, Abby Wambach. Watching them inspire a generation of girls during the ’99 World Cup was incredible. In turn, we are inspired daily by the girls that support us and strive to be in our shoes one day. I was once that little girl and I know how important it was to me to have role models for me to emulate on and off the field.

What do you listen to before a game?
Mumford and Sons, James Bay and LumineersPre-game meal?
Banana pancakes, chicken and pasta.

How would your teammates describe you?
I am not exactly sure how they would describe me but I would hope that they would say that she is someone who is a professional that works hard on and off the field to strive to be better and help the team win. I also would hope that they see me as a player that wants to leave the game of soccer in a better place than where I found it just like the players that came before us.

What would winning the FIFA World Cup mean to you?
It would mean everything. I know how much it means to my teammates and it is the one thing that many of us have not accomplished on the field. Abby Wambach in particular has done so much for our National Team and the sport that it mean everything to me if we could help get her that World Cup that she has been chasing her entire career.

FIFA 16 with Women’s National Teams will be available on all major playing platforms.
